Sociedad to sink Valladolid

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set for a top-four finish in La Liga as usual. The race for the two remaining spots is heating up though and none looks better equipped than Real Sociedad currently. Boosted by their run to the Copa Del Rey semis, they have also won three of their last four La Liga games. They also claimed wins in their last three league outings at home, with the most recent one being a resounding 3-0 win against Valencia.

More goals to come

The visitors were out of sight well before the hour mark thanks to goals from Mikel Merino, Nacho Monreal and an absolute screamer from Adnan Januzaj. A result and performance that really put Sociedad as genuine contenders for a Champions League spot this term. They are sixth in the table, three points behind the top four going into Matchday 26. They also have a game in hand after their recent fixture against Eibar was postponed. A win against Valladolid Friday evening will see the Basque giants at least temporarily overtake Getafe and Sevilla.

It took Valladolid a while to make their numerical advantage count over Espanyol last weekend following David Lopez’ first-half dismissal. Valladolid remains 15th going into this match, but their growing cushion over the bottom three should see them in good spirits.

They do struggle on the road though and it seems likely they will come up short against the in-form hosts. The win over Espanyol was just their second success in 13 La Liga matches. Away from home, the last eight away games brought one win.

A total of 11 draws this season, including a 0-0 stalemate in the reverse fixture between these sides, indicates how tough Valladolid are to knock over. It is hard to overlook the form of Real Sociedad currently though. They were sensational against Valencia, and their confidence is evidently sky high. They also have a Copa del Rey semifinal to look forward to.

Sociedad won two of their last three at home by a three-goal margin. While five of Valladolid’s six away defeats this term have been by two goals or more. Their most heavy beating was handed to them at Camp Nou and Sociedad is playing equally attack-minded at the moment.
