Reims can stop Lyon again

Europa League-chasing Reims pay a visit to Olympique Lyon in a Friday night clash in Ligue 1. Surprisingly it is the visitors who are better placed in the table as Reims sits in 5th place. Lyon is trailing them by one point in 7th with a host of followers lining up behind them in this incredibly tight division. Not counting the top four of course.

Lyon vs Reims, Betting tip

Lyon lost a crucial match last week in the race for European football next season. They allowed Lille to get the better of them in an always tricky away game. Although a narrow scoreline, Lille could have won by a few more than the one they settled for. It left Lyon nine points from a Europa League place and face a difficult final stage of the season.

Lyon will be glad to get back to their home stadium for this one. The Groupama has been good to them in recent weeks. They have seven wins in their last eleven games there, losing just once, and scoring 18 goals along the way. Interestingly they conceded only five in this run when excluding the PSG mauling. Interesting because Friday’s visitors also keep a tight ship.

Lyon Form

Reims have made a name for themselves in Ligue 1 for being extremely defensive and resolute in their play. While that does not work for the majority of teams in the league, Reims manage to thrive off on it. They did it once again last week as they kept another clean sheet, they are twelfth of the season, beating Brest 1-0 at home.

They have recently beaten 3rd placed Rennes and drawn with Monaco so the confidence is flowing through this team. Whereas many teams in the division have a lot of success due to their home form, Reims thrive away from home. They have the sixth-best away record in the league. They have lost just one of their last five away games although three of these finished all square.

Reims have conceded just 14 goals on the road this season, the third-best tally in the league. Reims avoided defeat in their last four against Lyon with the last two finishing a draw. In their current form, they look a good bet to continue this form. Side with the X2 or even “draw-no-bet” whilst also considering the “under 2.5 goals”.
