Go for the goals

The last match in round 8 in the Belarus Premier League has defending champions Dinamo Brest chasing the top half of the table. They are welcoming FC Dinamo Minsk and a home win could see them finish the round as high as 4th place. Depending on other results.

It has been a disappointing campaign so far but perhaps they turned a corner last weekend. They won 3-0 away at Belshina to move up to 10th in the Premier League. They are still six points behind the leaders though and will want to close that gap. Standing in their way is a team who has proven difficult to beat for Dinamo Brest in the past.

Dinamo Minsk starts the Sunday just two places above the relegation zone but only a point behind the home side. The form has been erratic all season and it is anyone’s guess what to expect on Sunday evening. They have won three league games this season but also lost four. They had no answer when Slutsk came visiting last weekend, losing 2-1 in the end.

A point might have been rescued but they missed a first-half penalty. They had won their previous two league games but those came against sides currently in the bottom three. Two of their three away games have been lost and they have only won one of their last eight away league fixtures, conceding in all of them.

Last week was a good one for Dinamo Brest. It started with them reaching the final of the Belarus Cup, albeit after a spectacular second semifinal. They went 2-0 up before losing 4-2 and only winning of away goals. Last week’s win was their third league win of the season which is the positive spin. They have also been beaten three times, two more than in the entire season in 2019.

Home form has seen them earn four points from four games, something they definitely need to improve on. As stated above they have found it tough to break down Dinamo Minsk at home. The latter won at the Stadyen DASK Brestski last season and lost only one of their previous five visits. Both sides have been close to impossible to gain a read on so how about going for “both teams to score”? It is an outcome which would have assured a payout in their last four meetings.

BATE has first place in sight

BATE Borisov made a poor start to the new season but are now up to third in the Belarus Premier League. Since opening with defeats in the initial two games of the season thing has really taken a turn for the better. Since neither Slutsk nor Torpedo BelAz managed to win their games in this round, BATE Borisov know, they can end the day in the first place.

It only requires three points when they travel to FK Smolevichi-STI. Even though the match takes place at the Stadyen Haradski, BATE Borisov have faced bigger challenges. Smolevichi won promotion to the Belarus Premier League last season but are already in trouble. They have three points from seven league games, already five points from safety.

Smolevichy vs BATE Borisov, Outlook & Tip

Smolevichi are still searching for their first win of the season and their latest game saw them lose 2-0 at home to Energetik. Only three goals have been scored in their seven games. They have not scored in open play since their first game of the season. Home form has seen them earn just one point from four games with one goal scored.

As mentioned, BATE Borisov began the new season with two defeats, both away games. Since then they have won four out of five games and reached the final of the Belarus Cup in the process. Midfielders Stanislav Dragun and Pavel Nekhajchik, along with striker Anton Saroka have turned up the heat. They have shared six goals equally between them.

A form guide for the last five games in this league has them top of the table with nine goals scored and one conceded. The last time Smolevichy-STI played in the Premier League they lost both league encounters with BATE Borisov. 1-0 away and 3-2 at home. Whatever the score this time around, BATE Borisov will be disappointed if they fail to get three points from this match.

Trailing league leader FC Slutsk by only three points but with a better goal difference, first place is up for grabs. The price on the away win is only suitable as a banker, and we are looking for a better priced “no” in “both teams to score”.

Lisakovich and Shaktyor to keep up momentum

The second match on Sunday in the Belarus Premier League has two teams with varying form taking on each other. FC Vibetsk welcomes Shakhtyor Soligorsk at the Stadyen Central’ny Vitsyebski with the latter clearly in better nick at the moment. FC Vibetsk bid to avoid a third straight loss in the Premier League. They start the Sunday in 10th place, albeit with only one point less than Shakhtyor Soligorsk.

FK Vitebsk vs Shakhtyor Soligorsk, Betting tip

The visitors go into Sunday’s matches in 7th place but with an upwards curve regarding form. The home side has won three league games this season and in fact in started so well. Five games in they were on 10 points which is not a bad start to the season. Then they visited Isloch and lost 2-0 before really screwing up last weekend in losing 3-2 at home to Slavia Mozyr.

That was the last result they expected when 2-1 up with just three minutes to go. Being 2-1 that late in the gate the least you expect is to salvage a draw. But not FC Vitebsk who allowed Maksym Slyusar to score twice and grab the three points. That same afternoon Shaktyor Soligorsk banged in four goals for the second time in five days.

They have taken three wins on the bounce, making Shakhtar a really tough nut to crack for FC Vitebsk. It has been an up and down season for them as they had gone four league and cup games without a win. Even failing to score in three of those. Now they have three wins, scoring ten goals in the process.

They beat Dinamo Brest 4-2 (after trailing 2-0) in the Belarus Cup, though still losing on aggregate. They followed that up by hammering Isloch Minsk 4-0 at home and one should perhaps keep an eye out for Vitali Lisakovich. The striker from Minsk has scored in all three matches and four goals in total. That is some red-hot form!

Their away form is impressive with two wins and a draw and they are yet to concede a goal. Shakhtyor beat FC Vitebsk 4-0 at home and 2-0 away in their last two meetings. Against a home side that conceded thrice in their last home game, we are looking for goals and an away win.

Isloch licking their wounds

There are four matches in the Belarus Premier League on Sunday with the first one kicking off roundabout lunch. FK Isloch Minsk welcomes FC Belshina Bobruisk at the Stadyen Traktar with both still licking their wounds from recent exploits. The home side dropped to fifth in the Belarus Premier League after taking a hefty beating at the hands of Shakhtyor Soligorsk last weekend.

The latter went into half time with a 1-0 lead but totally ran over Isloch Minsk in the 2nd half. Losing 4-0, even away from home, never does any good for the confidence. They are back on home soil this weekend and will fully expect to beat bottom-of-the-table Belshina.

Isloch is now four points behind league leaders FC Slutsk, who lost on Friday and owe their high position in the table to their home form. Five out of seven league games have been played at home with four wins and one loss to FC Slutsk. A stark contrast to their away form which has seen them lose both games with one goal scored and seven conceded.

Belshina won promotion to the Belarus Premier League last season but are already in deep relegation trouble. They have just two points from their seven league games and are six points from safety. After securing their first two points of the season through consecutive draws, they have lost both their recent league games. No wonder when you concede three goals each time.

Last weekend saw them lose 3-0 at home to Dinamo Brest and they have yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Compare that to Isloch Minsk who scored twice in each of their last three home games. They have not failed to score at the Traktar since September. It is very tough to build a case on behalf of Belshina. They have completely missed out on any momentum built by winning promotion.

Not even gaining a couple of draws eased their troubles, and now they come calling at the best home side in the league currently. Their last meeting was in the cup back in 2017 with Belshina the home side. Isloch ran away 4-1 winners on the day and Belshina’s form look similar to that this time around. It has the look of a home win but one might also consider over 2.5 goals.

Grodno take aim at home win

The second match on Saturday afternoon looks like a battle to keep the relegation-spots at bay. Neman Grodno takes on Ruh Brest with one point separating the pair. Five and six points respectively above the drop zone. The home side starts the round in 14th place while promoted Ruh Brest sits in 11th place.

The home team has been hit and miss the past three rounds. Following two hard-fought draws, they lost away to Dinamo Minsk. A week later they hammered Energetyk BGU by a commanding 3-0 scoreline but failed to capitalize. BATE Borisov took no prisoners last week when they beat Neman Grodno 3-1 after taking an only lead. The one positive Neman Grodno could draw from that encounter was, they at least achieved their first away goal of the season.

They have already lost three league games this season, but all those defeats have been on their travels. Home form has seen them win two and draw one with six goals scored and just one conceded. Ruh Brest maybe three places above their opponents, but they are only a point clear. They are without defeat in the last four rounds, but it was a close call last weekend. Trailing Gorodeya 1-0 in the 91st minute Kolpachuk managed the equalizer.

It was another match shy on goals and their first match of the season with both teams on the target. Conceding just three goals in seven matches is a great stat for a promoted team. Scoring just three as well is anything but impressive! Away form has seen them earn five points from four games. A rather impressive feat considering they claimed the five points with just one goal!

All seven of their league games went under 2.5 goals scored and they did not score in their last three trips away from home. It is tougher to call whether Neman Grodno will play a match with few goals or not. However, we do wonder about the prices on the outcome itself. The bookies have this one down as pretty even, but we wonder whether this is fair to the home side?

Counting last season, friendlies and this season Neman Grodno are without defeat in 14 home matches. Nine times they managed a clean sheet in this run. A remember; the visitors are without a goal in 344 minutes of play on their travels. We lean towards the home win, perhaps with the cover of a “draw-no-bet”.

Torpedos flying high

There are only to games on Saturday in the Belarus Premier League. First up is an encounter between two sides that celebrated emphatic wins last weekend. FK Slavia Mozyr takes on FC Torpedo BelAz from Zhodino at the Stadyen Junatsva. After a good run of results, the home side had a setback with three defeats on the bounce. Not

Not only did they plummet in the table, but they also missed the cup final as a result of that poor run. One could have imagined them suffering a hangover last weekend after a tough midweek semifinal in the cup. Perhaps even Vitebsk expected just that when taking on Slavia Mozyr on Sunday.

Slavia held a 1-0 lead at half time before Vitebsk got themselves in a winning position with two quick goals. They were still winning with four minutes remaining on the clock, only for Slavia to strike twice. Both goals coming from the small Ukrainian striker Maksym Slyusar. A defeat would have seen Slavia Mozyr start round 8 in 14th place, instead, they opened the weekend as number 7!

Slavia Mozyr Form

Slavia Mozyr

One has to tip the hat at such a comeback, especially after the disappointment of the cup. However, it much is a worry for coach Mikhail Martinovich that his team conceded at least two goals for the 4th game running. Such defending will prove suicidal against Torpedo BelAz if the latter brings their A-game.

They certainly did just that last Saturday. They were absolutely ruthless against an all too generous Minsk-defense. Torpedo found themselves 3-0 up after just 36 minutes and went into halftime with a 4-1 lead. Not least striker Valeri Borbachik had a field day by scoring three times taking his tally for the season to four goals.

Slavia Mozyr conceded three times in their previous home game against Minsk. If they take a look at the history books, they could soon find themselves worrying about a repeat against Torpedo. The visitors have a great record at this stadium. They won their last five trips to play Slavia Mozyr. They have not tasted defeat against Slavia Mozyr in 7 games on the trot or since 2015. Once again, we take aim at the away win.

Minsk have the history

After a top meeting in the first match in the Belarus Premier League, we look towards the bottom half of the table. FK Gorodeya takes on FC Minsk at Stadyen Haradzeya. Both are within touching distance of the top of the table but have still been more miss than hit so far.

Not least the performances of visitors FC Minsk have swung between brilliant and totally dismal. They opened the season with two nice wins only to succumb to three defeats without even scoring. Then followed an away at Slavia. Any chance of building on that results was blown to smithereens last Saturday.

In probably the most disastrous display of defending this season in the Belarus Premier League, they conceded four goals in one half against Torpedo BelAz. At home! At least the second half score was 1-1 but losing 5-2 at home left everyone embarrassed. Only one team, league leaders FK Slutsk, has managed more goals than the 11 scored by FC Minsk.

The problem obviously lies in defence with a total of 15 goals conceded. That is two more than bottom side Belshina who has not even won a match yet. They have yet to keep a clean sheet this season while FK Gorodeya has managed three. In all three it resulted in three points as well, with Gorodeya winning 1-0 in each. The 1-1 last weekend was their first draw of the season. They were leading 1-0 before the last minute of the match when Kolpachuk rescued a point for Ruh Brest.

The two points it cost Fk Gorodeya also tells you to close the Premier League currently is. Had they managed to hold on to another narrow win, they would have started around 8 in 5th place. Starting it in 10th looks a lot different, so how will they fare against FC Minsk? Well, we have stated that the visitors seem to be “all or nothing” and it might be worth taking a shot at the “all” this time.

FK Gorodeya have lost two of the three opening games at home this season. Counting last season, they have three wins at home from their last 8. Not exactly scary. Also, Minsk has a really good record here having not lost an away game to Gorodeya in the past decade. Take the away win straight on or cover with the draw-no-bet.

Slutsk setting new standards

Round 8 of the Belarus Premier League kicks off Friday afternoon with a match between two sides at the fun end of the table. FK Slutsk bid welcomes to Energetyk BGU with the former occupying first place in the table. There seems no stopping the FK Slutsk or their offensive lines at the moment. On Saturday they defended their first place by coming away from Dinamo Minsk with a 2-1 win. Another sign of the amazing progress they are currently enjoying.

After losing their previous four visits to Dinamo Minsk it was their first success there in years. It was also their fifth win of the season. Last year they won 9 games all year. By scoring two goals in Minsk they remained loyal to their current average which reads two goals per game. It took their total to 14 goals or close the half of the 29 goals they managed in the entire 2019 season.

Whatever it is coach Vitali Pavlov did during the offseason it is definitely working right now. Their feat of topping the league after 7 rounds is only enhanced by the fact, they have yet to keep a clean sheet. Will Energetyk BGU be able to stop this well-oiled machine? They start around 7 in 4th place after beating Smolevichy-STI 2-0 at the weekend.

They are another team which has enjoyed a remarkable development compared to last year. It was their 4th win of the season on Friday. Last year it took them 30 rounds to win 8 games. They finished above the relegation places only by winning the last game of the season against Dnyapro who went on to be relegated.

With three wins on the bounce and goals flowing freely, there are enough grounds to go with FK Slutsk right now. Does anything speak for the visitors? They have played four away matches this season, winning two along the way. Both wins against promoted sides though. They lost against established teams like Torpedo BelAz and Neman Grodno.

They clawed out a goalless draw last season at this stadium but expecting a repeat of that seems quite the stretch right now. However, the four points they have dropped this season have been at home. Conceding goals all the time at some point your luck will run out. FK Slutsk has never managed four wins on the bounce in the Premier League. Go for the surprise or with both teams to score.

Shakhtyor has the history

Shakhtyor had a big win in midweek but still failed to make it into the final of the Belarus Cup. They return to league action playing the final match of round 7 in the Belarus Premier League. Isloch Minsk come visiting the Stadyen Budaunik and question is; how much have Shaktyor got left in the tank?

Shakhtyor came from 2-0 down to beat Dinamo Brest 4-2 in their cup semi-final second leg. It was not good enough though and the aggregate score of 4-4 saw them knocked out of the cup on away goals. League form has been inconsistent with two wins, two draws and two defeats. Their league games have been low-scoring ones with five scored and three conceded.

Home form is not going too well with just one point from three home games and a single goal. A peculiar start to the season for the best home side in the league in 2019. Actually, they have yet to score a goal on home soil. They have managed just one goal which was an own goal by FK Slutsk, who still ended up beating Shakhtyor 2-1.

A fact that makes their four goals against Dinamo Brest on Wednesday even more bewildering. Shakhtyor goes into this match with two wins against the defending champions on the bounce but, the visitors are in good form themselves. And they did not play a tough midweek semifinal in the cup. Isloch Minsk started around seven seconds in the table thus taking full advantage of a strange set of fixtures. Of their six games in the Belarus Premier League this season, five have been played at home with four victories to show for it. Their only away game was a 3-1 away loss at the aforementioned Dinamo Brest.

The big question therefore is, how good are Isloch Minsk on their travels and will it hinder or help their title challenge? Three of their last five away league games were lost, so it is an area in which they need to improve. Counting friendlies, they are without a win in six away matches in 2020.

Setting aside their insane cup semifinal, Shakhtyor has seen under 2.5 goals scored in five out of six matches. They lack consistency and will find things tough against Isloch Minsk. The latter has a very poor record at the Stadyen Budaunik though, and Shakhtyor will, of course, use that in the build-up. We are not too crazy about the price on a home win, but it is either that or “under 2.5 goals”.

No way through in Borisov

Not since 2015 have BATE Borisov won the cup final in Belarus but this year they have the chance again. On Wednesday they turned a first-leg deficit into a 2-1 win on aggregate against Slavia Mozyr thus qualifying for the final. Perhaps the record titlist in Belarus football has finally got their mojo working again.

BATE Borisov made a slow start to the season, but they look in decent shape for Sunday’s match. They are taking on Neman Grodno at the Borisov Arena with a firm eye on keeping track of first place in the table. They found themselves in 5th place in the table before Sunday’s round of fixtures in the Premier League, with Neman Grodno two points behind.

BATE Borisov have won three out of four league games while also, as mentioned, reaching the cup final. In the league, they have kept clean sheets in their last four matches. Likewise, they have kept a clean sheet in the last four matches and only conceded once goal in their last six in all competitions. BATE have only had two of their six league games played at home.

Those two fixtures produced a win and a draw with just one goal scored by the home side. They have just one defeat in their last 15 home league matches. BATE have a strong home record against Neman Grodno with no league losses against them this century. Neman Grodno was struggling down in the bottom three until getting a 3-0 home win over Energetik last weekend.

Neman Grodno Form

Neman Grodno

That was only their second league win of the season, the other being a 2-0 victory at home to Vitebsk. Their away form is not great with just one point from three games. Even worse is the fact that they are yet to score an away goal this season.

This is going to be a tough game for Neman Grodno against an improving BATE Borisov side. They have lost their previous seven visits to this place. A home win to nil looks a fine bet, while a “no” in the “both to score” market looks better value than simply going for a straight home win.
