Napoli seems to be finally moving in the right direction, having won three of their last four matches in Serie A. The top four is too far a stretch this season but Gennaro Gattuso has them within two points of the top six. The Europa League could and should be Napoli’s goal for the season that has seen them waste enough points to already being 12 points behind Atalanta in fourth.
However, their run for sixth place could gain more momentum this weekend. A big European clash is coming up in midweek, but Gattuso won’t allow any blunders against a side there for the taking. The feisty Italian might shuffle the pack a little with Barcelona looming on the horizon. They should have too much quality for Brescia who is on a terrible run. The hosts have failed to win 10 consecutive matches in the top-flight.
Not surprisingly that puts Brescia in deep relegation trouble and six points from safety. The home side has only earned 16 points this season with just four wins on their return to Serie A. Two of those victories came back-to-back in the first half of December. It has all gone wrong since then though with a run of three points from eight league games.
Home form is the worst in Serie A with only six points from their 12 games. Their sole home win in the league coming against 16th placed Lecce just before Christmas. Two of their last three in front of the home crowd produced a draw.
Napoli has had an erratic season and finds themselves in ninth place. They are on the up though and with five wins in six in all competitions. Surprisingly they fell to aforementioned Lecce in 3-2 home loss to Lecce. An extremely odd result considering recent wins against top three Juventus, Inter and Lazio.
Napoli has the sixth-best away record in Serie A and have taken four away wins in five since Gattuso took over the reins. Considering the very poor outcome so far at home for Brescia we are certain Napoli will come away on top here.
