Manchester United looks to continue their current fine run of form when visiting Austrian side LASK in Linz Thursday night. Both sides are coming from league wins in their weekend matches, and with the home side in equally fine form as United. LASK head to this game on the back of four wins and a defeat in their last five outings.
They were expected to run over Mattersburg with the eventual 1-0 win perhaps looking a little too tight. It was enough though to set things right after a loss by a similar margin in the cup against rivals Salzburg. With four straight wins at home and unbeaten in six, they will be confident of a successful outcome against the English giants.
In 12 Europa League matches, LASK has won eight and lost just two. They have six straight home wins, comfortably seeing off the likes of AZ, Sporting and PSV in the group stages. Not the weakest of opponents and still the Austrian side came away in flying colours. They won their last three home matches by at least a two-goal margin. In five of their six home matches in Europa League, LASK has scored two or more goals.
Several wins for both teams
Just like LASK, Manchester United head to this game with four wins in their last five. They head here high on confidence after beating Manchester City once again. With four clean sheets in the past five matches, they will look at this as a winnable clash. They have one win in four away matches in Europa League and need be raised their game to end the current run of LASK.
In the previous round, they drew 1-1 away to Club Brugge before thrashing them 5-0 at home. On a run of six away matches unbeaten across all competitions, United will be hoping to stretch their away form here. They have registered just one defeat in 19 matches in the Europa League, away at Astana’s in the group stages.
With two sides currently looking very strong and with LASK enjoying home advantage we fell a tight match is coming on. Another away draw or under 2.5 goals for United is our preferred choices.
