Barca’s fixture last weekend against Real Betis promised a lot in terms of goals based on recent meetings between the teams, and no one was left disappointed except perhaps the home fans who witnessed their side surrender a 2-1 lead and ended up losing 3-2.
Betis had a real go at the champions from the off and deservedly took the lead with goals from Canales and Nabil Fekir, but Blau-Grana clawed their way back with Lenglet scoring the winner before being shown the red card only minutes after another goal scorer on the evening, the aforementioned Fekir was also expelled.
The result meant Barcelona remain the closest rivals to league leaders Real Madrid which is not unusual by any stretch. What is unusual however is that Saturday’s opponent sits third in the table. The Catalan giants will be confident of success after ten wins and one draw from 11 home matches in La Liga this season and Barca have never lost on home soil against Getafe, winning 12 and drawing four of their previous 16 meetings against the Madrilenians at Camp Nou.
However, they are now taking on a Getafe-side that have rarely been in such excellent form as they are now and only deservedly find themselves in such a lofty league position. The most likely outcome is of course that Pepe Bordalas’ side will come up short. Only Real Madrid have managed to keep Barcelona from winning a home match this season.
The most likely outcome when also a home win when Barca took on Slavia Prague in the Champions League though and look at what happened! Getafe has been a revelation this term and looks to have improved following last season’s fifth-place finish. They head into Camp Nou on the back of thrashing Valencia 3-0 which a fourth win on the spin.
We still fancy Barcelona to triumph here, Getafe have lost eight of their last 10 encounters with Real Madrid and Barcelona without winning any, so that is a code they have yet to crack and surely, they won’t start at Camp Nou. They have managed to keep things pretty tight though against “the big 2” with these last 10 encounters producing a total of 22 goals and their last two encounters at Camp Nou offered two and nil goals which make us look for another tight match between them.
