After a tough week, Chelsea got back to winning ways in midweek when taking out Liverpool in the FA Cup. Sunday, they face the other side from Liverpool, when Everton visit Stamford Bridge. Chelsea is fourth in the table and could do with a home win over 11th placed Everton to boost their hopes of Champions League qualification.
The games are coming fast and hard currently for Chelsea fans. One minute they get hammered by Bayern Munich, the next they are lucky to get a draw at Bournemouth before beating Liverpool. That’s the unpredictable nature of Frank Lampard’s team. Especially at Stamford Bridge, they have been rather difficult to predict.
Although fourth they have won only one of their last six league games with three of the last five ending in draws. They have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine league games with both teams scoring in four of the last five. The home form reads just two wins in their last six. Everton drew with Manchester United last weekend following a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal’s. They are way clear of the relegation zone that they occupied earlier in the season.
Still time for qualification
They could still qualify for Europe being only five points adrift of fifth place. Gunners can’t allow that gap to get much wider though but have a tough fixture list. Following this game, they take on Liverpool, Leicester and Tottenham. Earning points over the next few weeks are going to be a tough task. Their away form is not inspiring with only two wins in the last eight Premier League fixtures. This is an important game for both clubs.
Chelsea feels the pressure from a host of clubs coming up from behind. The Blues will need to stay focused to qualify for the Champions League next season. Everton is on a tough run of games as they try to qualify for the Europa League. The last time they played Chelsea, when they won a 3-1 at home, they were in the bottom three.
Things have improved a lot since. Both sides score and concede regularly so a bet on both to score looks well worth a bet. Both teams have scored in each of Everton’s last ten league matches away from Goodison. Chelsea is not great at keeping clean sheets as mentioned above. Everton has a lousy record at Stamford Bridge, and we look for the home win.
