AFC Bournemouth takes on Chelsea FC in a Premier League clash at the Vitality Stadium Saturday afternoon. Chelsea looks to consolidate their Premier League top-four position, while Bournemouth hopes to claim some vital points in their relegation fight. The Cherries are now 16th in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Coming into this match with just two wins in their last 10 Premier League outings speaks for Chelsea here.
However, the situation does look slightly more positive at Vitality Stadium. They have won their last two matches there, albeit against Brighton and Aston Villa. They have only lost four of their last 11 Premier League fixtures at the south coast. They have also picked up points against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton in front of their own fans this season. That gives cause for optimism when taking on a Chelsea-side that could still feel the battering in their midweek encounter with Bayern Munich.
Chelsea put their run of four league games without a win behind them as they proved too good for Tottenham last weekend. Despite the confidence-boosting win over Spurs, Frank Lampard’s men were then outclassed by the Germans in the Champions League. It was boys against men in the second half at Stamford Bridge Tuesday night.
Chelsea will most likely still be without N’Golo Kante for this clash. They did not appear to pick up any further injuries in the game with Bayern. Chelsea will be eager to bounce back quickly. They outplayed Tottenham last weekend and a similar performance should see them come away with three points here. Question is of course whether a similar performance is on the cards after a tough Champions League-encounter.
Bournemouth was very poor last weekend against Burnley and will also look to bounce back. The Cherries were without Nathan Ake in last week’s contest, but the centre-back should return here. Josh King has been a big miss for Bournemouth but made his first start following his injury last week and should retain his spot.
Chelsea has only kept one clean sheet in their last 11 away matches. Bournemouth scored at home against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. The home side lost 12 of 16 against top 6-sides, but with Chelsea coming from a tough midweek clash, we dare not rule out a surprise. Both teams to score is our pick.
